Description:
Let’s not waste much time on long transfers just to get kayaking. A short 20 minute free transfer from your Swakopmund accommodation and you are on a quiet stretch of beach getting ready to launch your kayak into the calm waters. We kayak at a historic landmark that has been much talked about since the early 1930’s when German carpenter Adolf Winter’s vision of harvesting guano was shaped. We will share the interesting story of one man’s entrepreneurial spirit with our guests as we view his legacy from the water.
Today Bird Rock is a prime breeding ground for cormorants, pelicans and others and a common place to see flamingo's too.
No need for any kayaking experience, as it is a leisurely one hour paddle in the calm and gentle waters of the bay.
Occasional visits by dolphins make for lots of excitement, and seals are always close by, either leisurely looking for fish or taking a nap after a long night of fishing. We get pretty close to these agile and friendly animals and sometimes they swim with us for a while.
